China Communications Construction Company, the contractors of the Nairobi â Naivasha section, said construction of the line is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
The laying of the Standard Gauge Railway, started Monday,the 120 km rail will end in Naivasha and is expected to extend to Kisumu and terminate at Malaba.
The construction has been signified by erection of girders that are visible from a distance,
Construction works have progressed smoothly and the project is on time. Todayâs launch of track-laying and erecting girders signifies the project will transition from civil works to the next stage,â said CRBC Chairman Lu Shan.
The rail construction is estimated to cost sh. 150 billion,on expansion to Kisumu Kenya is expected to cough sh.350 billion China has financed 90% of this project,via the Exim Bank of China
The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has been undertaking some work on the railway, including construction of the 4.5km SGR tunnel in Embulbul, Ngong, “We are also on course to complete the 4.5km Ngong tunnel in August, the first and longest railway tunnel in the country,â said Mr Zhao
