Financially disciplined teacher unlocks her potential after joining Mentor Sacco
When Jacinta Wacera Githaiga joined Mentor Sacco in 2016, she was simply looking for an opportunity to improve her future. What she did not know at the time was that a small monthly saving would become the beginning of a life-changing journey.
Today, the Murang’a county teacher proudly speaks about a transformation that has touched every area of her life, from education and business growth to family stability and personal empowerment. Jacinta credits two individuals, Mr. Kamau Githaiga and Mr. Eliud Mbugua, for introducing her to Mentor Sacco, a decision she now describes as one of the most important turning points in her life.
The journey begins
Afer formally joining the Sacco, her savings journey began modestly. “I started by saving five hundred shillings monthly, and now I am almost hitting one million in non-withdrawable deposits,” she said proudly. Her testimony is a powerful reflection of the philosophy that defines many successful financial journeys ; growth does not happen overnight. It is built slowly, patiently, and consistently.
Through Mentor Sacco, Jacinta was able to pursue higher education and eventually qualify as a teacher, an achievement she speaks about with deep pride. Beyond her profession, the Sacco also helped her educate her children and venture into business, giving her financial confidence and stability.
For Jacinta, the Sacco has become more than a financial institution. It is a partner in her journey to achieve financial success.
She describes the Sacco’s products and services as timely, reliable, and member-friendly. In particular, she appreciates its affordable interest rates, and the ease with which members are supported whenever they need assistance. “Since I joined Mentor Sacco, I have never gone there and went back home empty-handed,” she said. Those words carried the sincerity of lived experience, the voice of someone who has repeatedly found support in moments of need.
Inspiring
Speaking on the sidelines of the MID at Ithanga Comprehensive School , Jacinta rated the experience highly. “ It is ten out of ten,” she happily said describing it as informative, empowering, and inspiring. She particularly praised the delegate system, saying it gives members a stronger sense of participation and ownership in the Sacco’s future.
According to her, the information shared during MID forums plays a pivotal role in helping members improve themselves financially, while also encouraging others to join the institution.
She also expressed hope that future MIDs would improve digital accessibility by providing internet access for members attending online sessions, allowing them to participate more effectively. What stands out most in Jacinta’s testimony is her passion for encouraging others — especially young people, to begin their savings journey without fear or intimidation. Having started with just Kshs. 500, she believes anyone willing to remain disciplined and patient can achieve financial success. “To the young people who are yet to join Mentor Sacco, please start small and with time you shall grow,” she advised.
Today, as she steadily approaches one million shares, Jacinta Wacera Githaiga represents the very spirit of what Mentor Sacco seeks to inspire in its members : resilience, growth, empowerment, and the courage to dream beyond present circumstances. Her story is proof that sometimes, the smallest beginnings lead to the most extraordinary transformations.
