Carrefour (operated by Majid Al Futtaim in Kenya) has launched a month-long donation campaign in partnership with the Kenya Red-Cross to assist communities in need, with donations. The donation will consist of maize meal, rice, sugar, cooking oil and other food items, targeting needy families neighbouring Carrefour stores. The distribution of this donation will be done through the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.
Carrefour customers are encouraged to join this worthy cause by donating food hampers and dropping them in special boxes, located in each of the seven Carrefour stores in Kenya. Carrefour will in turn contribute a food hamper, for every ten donated by its customers.
“During this time of Covid-19, it is important to give back to those in need,” said Frank Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail adding corporate social responsibility is an integral part of their business.
The Kenya Red Cross has been at the forefront in collecting and distributing food essentials during this time, and together with Carrefour’s reach to a large customer base, this partnership will be a positive catalyst to rally the nation together to support those in need. “ The measures instituted as part of the Covid-19 response has put a lot of households in dire strain economically, and unless the most vulnerable families are supported, we cannot defeat this pandemic” said Dr Asha Mohammed, Secretary General, Kenya Red Cross Society.
