Former permanent secretary in the ministry of information and secretary, (now referred to as ICT principal secretary) Dr. Bitange Ndemo has been appointed as the chairman of a government taskforce that will explore the use of distributed ledger technology and artificial intelligence for development in the country.
The move is part of a plan by the Kenyan government to keep up with rapid advances in fields such as cryptocurrency.
The committee established by ICT Cabinet secretary Joe Mucheru has a tenure of three months to explore the use of distributed ledger technology and artificial intelligence for development in Kenya.
The taskforce will also consider decentralizing incubation hubs beyond Nairobi and explore the “possibility of an innovation SACCO and/or fund within the next 12 months.
The 11 Members of the committee include Steve Chege (Safaricom head of corporate affairs), Juliana Rotich (co-founder of BRCK and Ushahidi), Dr Charity Wayua, Fred Michuki, John Gitau, Mahmoud Mohammed Noor, , Elizabeth Ondula, John Walubengo, Lesley Mbogo and Michael Onyango.
