Kenyan financial technology start-ups missed out on the winners list of this yearâs Ecobank Fintech Challenge which is in its second edition. Tanzanian firm, Nala, a mobile money application that works offline scooped the award after emerging the overall winner.
The first and second runners up consecutively went to Virtual Identity from South Africa and Wallet.ng from Nigeria. They won cash prizes of Sh1 million, Sh700, 000 and Sh500, 000 respectively.
Ecobank Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ade Ayeyemi said that, âWe are proud of the impressive start-ups that made it to our 2018 final. They are shining examples of entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.â
Eleven start-ups had been shortlisted. They included Litee (Benin), SESO Global (South Africa), Secapay (Nigeria), Lypa (Kenya), Awamo (Germany), Eversend (France), Invested (Sierra Leon) and MojiPay (Togo).
