Lake region representatives, Stream Football Club are the inaugural champions of the Guinness Night Football tournament after beating Banger Football Club, representing Nairobi region 3-1 in a match that was held at Halycon lounge and Grill in Kitengela.
The 12-week campaign dubbed ‘Guinness Night Football’ whose aim is to give consumers an opportunity to represent Kenya in a pan-African tournament in Lagos, Nigeria has offered tickets to Stream FC for the Pan-African championship which will be hosted by Guiness ambassador and football legend, Rio Ferdinand on 31st January 2020.
Calvin Ogallo, Stream FC captain explained that even though their strategy to execute failed in the first half they got a chance to kill the game in the second half after re-grouping which made him proud as he captained his team to the trophy. He also said that the team is hoping to be champions in the Pan-African tournament as they are dedicated to continue with the good form.
On his part, Hassan Hussein, Captain of Bangers FC said that they were very much prepared for the game as they were leading in the first half and the better part of the second half but a loose of concentration ended in them conceding. He also mentioned that The team gave all their best to ensure they win the trophy but unfortunately luck was not on their side.”
The intense match was settled through post match penalties where Stream FC converted all their spot kicks through captain Calvin Ogallo, Fredrick Ochieng and Ouma Jared; while Banger FC converted their penalties through Timothy Ouma and Byron Otieno who crushed the teams hope by failing to convert his penalty.
Meanwhile, the Nairobi region matches were also played on the same day. The finals had Bangers FC emerging the regional winners after defeating Sega FC four goals to one (4-1);Stream FC had defeated Young Ghetto one goal to nil, Black Jubil ,Rift Valley representatives defeated Young Ghetto Football Club ,Mountain region representatives (3 – 1) while Bangers FC had thrashed Black Jubil three goals to nil in the grand finale semi-finals. Bangers FC then progressed to the national finals which they emerged as the first runners up.
Winners Stream FC walked away with Kshs. 100,000 and a trip for the Pan-African championship in Nigeria while the first runners up Bangers FC won 100,000Kshs as consolation prize and Black Jubil finished in the podium, securing the cash prize of Kshs. 50,000. Stream FC is set to compete with winners from Uganda and host country Nigeria.
