The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Kenya has issued a formal statement congratulating Joe Biden on his Inauguration as the 46th President of the United States of America and Kamala Harris on making history as the first female Vice President of the United States.
In the statement, AmCham Kenya chief executive officer, Maxwell Okello, outlined the longstanding strategic and mutually beneficial relationship between the two countries citing the pivotal cusp at which the commercial relationship now stands with the ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement and the looming expiry of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) in 2025.
He reiterated AmCham’s support of negotiations for a comprehensive, modern and model free trade agreement between Kenya and the United States. “A comprehensive, long-term structure for expanded, fair and balanced trade and investment is the key that will unlock the true potential of the U.S. – Kenya commercial relationship,” Okello said.
In addition to expressing enthusiasm for the business opportunities that the free trade agreement is bound to create, the statement concluded by expressing hope for a successful Biden presidency and AmCham’s support for the new administration.
