Folks, we survived the 180 days of January, *sigh* and even better, the weekend is finally here. Once in a while whether you like sports or not, you’ll get invited to attend a basketball/football/baseball game with no way out. I attended a universities’ football tournament last weekend at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and i was outraged by some outfits people were doning. I mean, some were dressed like they were going to a pool party!
There’s no better place to make a fashion statement like a sporting event. Here are some few tips on what to wear to that ball game you have been invited to.
Pay attention to the colours
There’s a certain sense of belonging that comes with getting the colours right. When you are there in the stands cheering for your team doning it’s colours brings a certain satisfaction. It also makes you feel like a part of that team. It’s important not to accidentally don rival colors, so do your research before the game. However, you can opt for neutral colours like black.
Simplicity is key
It’s okay to be a little dressy at a sporting event. Ladies, i do not recommend wearing a tight dress. And if you must, please do not pair it with heels. You can pair that dress with a pair of sneakers to keep the outfit casual yet chic.
If you must wear heels, pair them with a baggy t-shirt and a pair of jeans or sweat pants. This ensures you are comfortable and feeling yourself at the same time. You can also accessorize the look with some sunglasses and a your favourite hat. Ladies, remember its a sports event not a club, tone everything down.
Try to keep the leather and lace at home or save it for the club. These things do not belong in the pitch. Fur can also remain in the closet but if you’re going to a hockey arena, you have a fair chance of keeping warm.
Also, the professional look is a little too fancy, unless you’re coming straight from work and want to be taken for as a suitcase-totting semi-sports fan who gets to go to games just for the clients and the company you work for. Dressing for a sporting event can be a tricky task, but if you do it right, you’ll look effortlessly chic
