Ruiru Sports Club hosted the 2024 NCBA Golf Series. It marked the fourth instalment of the series calendar that commenced in early March this year. The event saw over two hundred golfers converge on the par-72 course with the first group teeing-off as early as 7:00 am. The golfers were vying for coveted slots at the series grand finale to be held later this year at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club.
Commenting on the tournament, John Gachora, NCBA Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer expressed his excitement stating: “We are thrilled to return to Ruiru for the second time since the inception of this series in 2021.” He added : “ Witnessing the remarkable growth of the tournament, with an ever-increasing participation is a source of pride for all of us at NCBA.”
He further said that the bank’s main goal is to facilitate superb experience with its stakeholders. “Ruiru presents a challenging course, and we eagerly anticipate the test it will provide this weekend. Our goal is to ensure a rewarding experience for our stakeholders in Ruiru, as we have consistently delivered in our past events,” he added.
Exceptional
On his part, Ruiru Sports Club captain James Muraguri extended a warm welcome to the golfers. He also took the opportunity to express gratitude to NCBA Group for bringing back the event to Ruiru. “We are thrilled to host the NCBA golf series once again at Ruiru Golf Club,” he said. “The course is in impeccable condition and we’re looking forward to witnessing some exceptional golfing talent on display. Our club members and the local community are excited to be a part of this prestigious event,” he added.
The Ruiru leg follows the third leg of the series held on April 6 at the Eldoret Sports Club where home-grown player James Chirchir carded a round of forty one points to claim victory in the division one category. Chirchir successfully shrugged off stiff competition from fellow club-mate James Komen whose final tally of thirty eight points secured him the runner-up position in the category.
In the ladies category; Miriam Wanjiku, playing off handicap of twelve, clinched victory with a final score of thirty six points. Coming in second place was Gracemary Karira, with an impressive score of thirty six points.

On the other hand, in division two, Cheptoo Johana claimed victory in the men’s category after scoring thirty six points while Satwinder Sagoo emerged victorious in the ladies category, after returning an impressive forty stableford points.
At the same time, Anita Cherop demonstrated exceptional skills in division three, emerging triumphant with thirty three stableford points while junior golfer Ryan Tolgos secured victory in the junior category after carding one hundred gross.

During prize giving ceremony, NCBA Group senior representative said: “The NCBA golf series serves as a unique opportunity for us to engage with our customers and partners in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, strengthening relationships and fostering a sense of togetherness. The series is not just about competition; it is about forging lasting friendships and uniting us in our shared love for the game of golf.”
The representative also confirmed that they have extended support to KGU’s 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship which has twenty eight events as well as the Junior Golf Foundation’s 2024 calendar which has over thirty events throughout the year.
NCBA Ruiru branch manager highlighted how NCBA’s presence in the region has had an impact noting that it was the first bank to open in the Kamakis region , along the Eastern Bypass. “We are proud to see such an incredible turnout for this prestigious event right here in our community. Events like the NCBA Golf Series not only showcase the talent and passion for golf in our region, but also provide a platform for us to come together and celebrate our shared interests,” he remarked.
