Kenya Film Classification Board partners with france and other global pacesetters to reinvent the film industry in Kenya

In a bid to create enthusiasm of local entertainment among Kenyans, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) is partnering with the French Embassy in Nairobi to organise a global film exchange programme in Kenya. Seeing that French has a remarkable local culture appreciation, the board is organizing this event to be held annually where stakeholders from various countries will share ideas on film production.
The first edition of the International Film Convention (IFC), which will be held annually, has been slated for 15th to 17th November, 2017. It will bring together key players in the film industry from France, India, among other countries.
The objectives of the convention will include creating sustainable exchange programmes between Kenyan filmmakers and established international producers and other players in the creative industry across the world.
It will also provide a platform for sharing new ideas in the art and craft of film production in light of new film technologies as well as consultations between KFCB and other regulators on the best global film content regulatory models to protect children from unsuitable content.
Further, it will provide a platform for exploring ways of promoting local content to meet the 60 percent threshold expected of local broadcasters by 2018.
Themed “Taking the Audiovisual and Film Industry in Africa to the next Level”, the event will have a plenary session  that will discuss ways of enhancing the performance of East Africa’s film industry.
KFCB’s chief executive officer  Ezekiel Mutua said the event will further create a forum for promoting regional integration and synergy in promoting growth in the East African economic bloc.
