Lucy Njoki, is another customer of Juhudi Kilimo who has benefited from its WASH product offering. She is a resident of Kimuchu in Thika sub-county and a member of Vision Kimuchu self-help group. A mother of two boys and two girls, she joined the lender in 2018. “Through financing from Juhudi Kilimo, I have managed to educate my children and set up a micro enterprise for selling firewood,” she says adding that this has improved her livelihood.
Lucy is a widow and hence the sole bread winner of her family. She buys trees from her neighbours, and in turn, she chops firewood from them. The firewood is kept in her homestead from where she sells it to her neighbours and other prospective customers. This is her main source of income.

A responsible family head, Lucy got a loan from Juhudi Kilimo in 2021 to purchase a water tank with a capacity of five thousand litres. She successfully serviced the loan within one year by making monthly instalments of Kshs.3,400. “I harvest rain water using my tank and I use it for cooking, drinking, laundry and irrigating vegetables in my small piece of land,” she says. After settling this loan, Lucy was financed by Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a water filter. This ensures that her water is safe for drinking and cooking.
“We mainly support our customers to acquire tanks so that they can harvest water during the rainy seasons for domestic use and irrigating their farms,” says Mr. Koima adding that unless it is harvested, rain water often gets wasted.
