Residents of Kahawa West in Nairobi will have access to comprehensive healthcare services through the launch of an Equity Afia Medical Centre in their neighbourhood.
Equity Afia is a network of franchised medical out-patient centres run by qualified and experienced doctors who have come together to provide high quality, affordable and accessible healthcare to Kenyans.
Speaking during the launch in Kahawa West, the executive director of Equity Group Foundation, Reuben Mbindu said Equity Afia medical centres are National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) accredited, and they are meant to facilitate quality medical services to all Kenyans. âThe health facilities are focused on the well-being of communities with an aim of extending affordable medical services to all, without people having to dig deeper into their pockets,â said Mr. Mbindu.

Equity Afia has eight other operational clinics in OngataRongai, Thika, Buruburu, Kayole, Kawangware, Ruiru, Nyeri and Nakuru. These facilities have laboratories which are equipped with modern equipment and operated by experienced and efficient laboratory staff , a pharmacy with quality, affordable medication provided by professionals, doctorâs consultation, nursing care services and well-baby clinics, dental and optical services as well as specialist services which can be booked on request.
A total of 150,000 patients have been served and treated for various health conditions at the Equity Afia medical centres.
Equity Afia was established by the Equity Group Foundation (EGF) to respond to the growing need for affordable healthcare by Kenyans. It is also providing a platform for the alumni of the Equity Leaders Programme (ELP) who are qualified health professionals to join the franchise and use their health expertise to transform lives and livelihoods of Kenyans. Equity Bank offers support services like financing for doctors wishing to set up such centres.
Currently, Equity Afia has 9 medical centres in various locations i.e.âŻOngataRongai, Kawangware, Buruburu, Kayole, Thika, Ruiru, Nyeri, Kahawa West and Nakuru.âŻThese facilities are managed by a team of qualified and competent staff comprising of medical officers, nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians and are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that curative and preventive services are offered at the highest standards. âŻâŻ

In order to champion this, Equity Afia has instituted a rollout plan of setting up and operationalizing more outpatient health facilities over the next few years.
