Google has barred the world’s second biggest smartphone maker, Huawei, from some updates to the Android operating system, dealing a blow to the Chinese company.
While there’s currently no issue with brands headquartered in other parts of the world, but Huawei’s restriction could see other smartphone manufacturers forced into a costly rethink.
These sanctions do not currently affect other brands, the message being sent is clear: global politics can have dramatic implications for the manufacturing and marketing of consumer devices that have become indispensable for billions of people.
By ending this close relationship, future smartphone design will certainly be affected.
