BUSINESS COACH, STRATEGIST AND AUTHOR BREAKS NEW GROUND

He is  known as a strategic consultant and business coach, so author George R. Leonard says he often surprises people when they ask about his new book. “They ask, ‘What’s it about, finance?’ And I say no. It’s actually about your mental health. Because the way our economic situation is now, you may be having panic attacks and don’t even realize it,” Leonard said. “Our biggest issue is identifying the problem. It’s you  versus  you. We are buying things to impress people who don’t even like us. You need to identify the problem, treat the problem and defeat the problem.”

The book is called How to Thrive in a Recession: “You vs. You,” so people understandably expect financial advice, but Leonard’s goal is to guide readers into a mental state that helps them maintain a resilient mindset, make sound financial decisions and cultivate personal growth in adversity. In other words, the ability to thrive in a recession or any other set of circumstances. “What is  the worst thing that has  happened to you?” Leonard asked. “Don’t go through it; grow through it. Life happens for you, not to you.”

Unlike financial guides, How to Thrive in a Recession: “You vs. You” takes a deep dive into mental health disorders, explains what a recession is, and then explores where the two intersect and actions that can be taken to overcome obstacles.  Leonard challenges the notion that external circumstances determine an individual’s personal and professional growth, and instead helps readers recognize their own worth by guiding them on a journey of self-discovery.

Ultimately, Leonard hopes his practical guidance will equip readers with the tools they need to achieve personal growth in the face of adversity. “You can’t change the world until you change yourself,” he added. “It’s not where you start, but where you finish. There is no magic pill, and it’s not what side of the tracks you’re from. It’s about what you think and choose to create. Your experiences are not good or bad; it’s what you learn from them. No matter what’s going on in your life, you have the power of choice. You’ve got to have a setback for a comeback!”
