Safaricom’s Imenti Road Race champions

Emmanuel Bor from Nandi and Millian  Naktar from Embu recently emerged  as the champions of the Imenti South road race held in Meru county. It was the 13th edition in Safaricom’s athlete series.

The road race themed ‘running for health and wealth living’ was sponsored by Safaricom with the aim of offering a platform to nurture talents and promote athletics locally and internationally. Apart from the Imenti South road race, Safaricom has sponsored ten similar long-distance races as well as track and field events throughout the year, such as the Henry Wanyoike Road Run, the 6th Deaf Half Marathon in Jericho, National trials of   the   first   Africa Deaf Athletics Championships, the Iten Road Race, the Madoka Half Marathon, Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Ndalat cross-country, Mombasa as well as  Kisii  Half Marathon .  Kisumu Road Race is   the only remaining race in 2019.

Safaricom Imenti South Road Race covered an area of 15 kilometres.It attracted over 700 athletes who have excelled both locally and internationally. Bor who participated for the second time in the race braced the chilly weather to set a new record at 48 minutes  and 32 seconds,  thus beating the 49 minutes and 24 seconds  record  set by Moses Koech last year.

The race provided a chance for athletes who have excelled both locally and internationally to participate.  The two champions, Bor and Naktar won a cash prize of Kshs.  100,000 each while the first runners-up Lenai Lang’ata and Chepkemoi Beatrice  pocketed Kshs. 50,000 each.
