Telkom Kenya employees to be interviewed for recruitment in Airtel-Telkom

Communications firm Telkom Kenya has announced plans to advertise job openings and interview its employees for recruitment.

This is in anticipation of the soon-to-be-unveiled Airtel-Telkom combined entity.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the telco said it had notified its staff of an impending realignment brought about by the merger.

“Telkom Kenya issued a one-month notice of redundancy, with effect from July 31, 2019, to its employees, informing them of the intention to terminate the employment of approximately 575 of its staff complement, on account of redundancy, as a result of the Transaction,” the company said.

The firm said it will adhere to the law while executing the retrenchment of some 575 employees

 “This is in line with the law and is a process that has to be undertaken before employees are able to move to any other entity and are still subject to regulatory approvals,” Telkom Kenya stated.

Earlier this year, Telkom Kenya and Airtel announced the signing of a binding agreement tobe renamed Airtel-Telkom. The agreement seeks to combine their respective Mobile, Enterprise and Carrier Services businesses in the country.

The two communications companies have in the recent past registered market losses, brought about by tough competition from Safaricom forcing the firms to enter amalgamation talks.

So far, the Communication Authority of Kenya has approved the union.
