Every year, Mentor Sacco organizes information days for its members. During these forums, the members are updated on the Sacco’s performance besides being educated on important issues regarding the co-operative movement in general and how to become effective financial managers in particular.

“Of vital importance during these days, members deliberate on the challenges that they might be facing and forge ways and means of tackling them,” says Mr. Anthony Kamau, the chairman of Mentor Sacco’s board of directors. These forums are interactive.“Over and above updating our members on various developments in the Sacco, they also give us feedback on how we are serving them and we are therefore able to develop products which are tailored to meet their specific needs,” adds Mrs. Joyce Ndegwa, the chief executive officer (CEO).

During these days, members are met by the Sacco’s board members and management team at strategic venues in their respective electoral zones so that they can turn up in big numbers. “From mid January this year, we have been successfully holding our members’ information days in various electoral zones where we have a presence and the attendance has been overwhelming,” says Mrs. Ndegwa.

In order to educate the members effectively, the Sacco invites a team of highly experienced and educated facilitators who are well versed with issues regarding the co-operative movement. A good case in point is Nelson Nyoro, a lecturer at the Co-operative University of Kenya. The don has been one of the main trainers of Mentor Sacco’s members for the last eight years.

“We empower members with information that enables them to make informed decisions while handling their income, and in turn, they contribute effectively towards the Sacco’s overall growth,” says Nyoro.  Last Saturday, he gave a moving lecture on the relationship between emotional intelligence and financial success to an attentive audience at Kiriaini Primary School, during the information day for Mentor Sacco’s members from Mathioya electoral zone.
